It's called "rubber stamping," and last August 7 Action News first exposed how court staff were literally stamping a judge's name onto orders that allowed the state to take kids from their parents.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is hosting two hearings about Native Americans in the foster care system ahead of a planned summit next month.

The tribe is hosting a pre-summit hearing April 20 at the Grand River Casino in Mobridge, S.D., and another one on April 26 at Prairie Nights Casino in Fort Yates, N.D.

A child advocacy group is asserting that a decision by Rhode Island officials to release an 18-year-old from state care was linked to the teen's involvement in a lawsuit against the state.

The Providence Journal reports the group Children's Rights suggests in court papers that the child, referred to as "Terrence T," was released from foster care to "moot his claims" in the 2007 lawsuit, which seeks an overhaul of the state's foster care system.

Participants in Vermont's Reach Up welfare-to-work program will see longer-term child care subsidies and an increase in the amount of income the program will disregard when calculating benefits.

Depending on income eligibility guidelines, it would increase the amount of time a Reach Up recipient exiting the program can get state child care subsidies from one year to two. It also increases the amount of monthly income the state will disregard in calculating benefits.

A woman was arrested Sunday for assault with a deadly weapon, after allegedly shooting a man in the chest, according to Riverside County Sergeant Misty Reynolds.

Police arrested Andrea Auclair, 28, from Rancho Mirage. Auclair was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner and child endangerment. Child Protective Services arrived and took custody of two young children.
