NOBLESVILLE -- A Hamilton County child protective services worker who already faced sex-related charges involving two boys has been charged with molesting a third.

Cory Heinzman, of Arcadia, was charged this week with molesting an 11-year-old boy on three occasions in 2002. Heinzman was arrested in May on charges that he molested an autistic teenage boy who had been part of his caseload. Authorities said molestation in that case allegedly happened between August 2004 and March.

Actress Katie Holmes has been seeing Actor Tom Cruise for several months. Announcement this week of her pregnancy, however, caused Child Protective Services officials in California to open an investigation into possible child abuse.

"Hey," said investigator Sid Pedals, "this is California. We let our celebrities get away with having their little flings with under age kids all of the time. Look at Michael Jackson and his little boys, it wasn't us who prosecuted! Everyone and their dog probably had their wicked ways with Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen twins, Drew Berrymore, and Hillary Duff before they hit the legal age.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- A judge has granted a couple's request to remove himself from their battle with the state over cancer treatment for their 13-year-old daughter after the Texas Supreme Court reversed part of his ruling on visitation rights.

Juvenile Court Judge Carl Lewis on Thursday recused himself from the case involving Child Protective Services and the parents of Katie Wernecke, who had been resisting treatment for her Hodgkin's disease, a cancer of the lymph nodes. By a previous order from Lewis, CPS has custody of Katie and control over her cancer treatments at least until another hearing with a new judge presiding.

We don't have to guess what will happen if opponents of family preservation get what they want. We don't have to guess what will happen if family preservation is effectively abandoned. We don't have to guess, because it happened -- in Illinois in 1993, in

In April, 1993, three-year-old Joseph Wallace was killed by his mother. Joseph was "known to the system." "Family preservation" quickly became the scapegoat. It was attacked relentlessly by politicians and much of the media -- even though most of the programs in Illinois bore little resemblance to the effective, Homebuilders-based models used in other states.

Colorado children are dying from neglect and abuse even after social service agencies receive warnings of trouble. Yet a system created to learn from the deaths is plagued by mistakes and incomplete records.

In 41 percent of Colorado's child abuse and neglect deaths during the past decade, social service agencies charged with protecting children had warnings - sometimes numerous warnings - of problems in the home, a Denver Post investigation found.

A federal judge whose family was murdered is urging the Senate to condemn harsh remarks about the judiciary.

U-S District Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow (LEF'-koh) told the Senate Judiciary Committee the safety of judges around the country is at stake. She says, "Fostering disrespect for judges can only encourage those who are on the edge, or the fringe, to exact revenge on a judge who ruled against them."

Five hundred employees at Franklin County Children Services were poised to go on strike Tuesday night after being unable to reach a new contract with the county.

Union members were set to begin striking at 7 a.m. Wednesday at all six locations where FCCS has offices. The social service agency wants the employees to start paying a portion of health care premiums. But the workers argue that they have already sacrificed higher wages in exchange for better benefits.
