Romney and the GOP have demonstrated both poor judgment and poor sportsmanship that might cost them by damaging Romney's electability among the Ron Paul supporters thus leading to a splitting of votes, which in turn, could cost the GOP the entire election. Dr. Ron Paul is still in the race for president and is a strong contender for the 2012 GOP nomination.

Why the New Department of Homeland Security REAL ID Act Regulations are Unrealistic

In March, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published draft regulations to establish minimum standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards, in accordance with the REAL ID Act of 2005.

The Act has been touted as a national effort to prevent terrorism and reduce identity fraud. Eventually, the Act will require every person in America to carry a REAL ID-compliant identification document, issued by a State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), in order to fly on commercial airlines, enter government buildings, or simply open a bank account.

A Michigan prosecutor recently concluded that Crawford County Sheriff's Deputy John Klepadlo was justified in using deadly force to stop a man who lunged at him with a knife.

Although a state police investigator wanted to charge Klepadlo in connection with the February 3 shooting in Grayling, Roscommon County Prosecutor Mark Jernigan, whom the Michigan Attorney General's Office asked to review the case, said Klepadlo responded appropriately to a potentially lethal threat...sounds reasonable, until you learn the circumstances of the shooting, which make it seem not quite so justified.

Children placed in foster care before the age of 2 made remarkable recoveries. Those who were given homes after the age of 2 had damaged IQs and cognitive ability. Their neglect could be seen on a brain scan.

Why we must save Algoma's family preservation program

For Joe and his daughter, the trouble started when someone told the CAS he had pulled the girl's hair. There was no evidence to support that accusation.

Even after all charges against Joe were dropped, the CAS kept his daughter in foster care for another six months. Until now, the family preservation program has worked closely with Algoma Family Services, Sault Area Hospital, Women in Crisis Algoma and other local agencies to intervene on behalf of families in crisis, ensuring families can stay together and stay healthy through whatever crisis they were facing.

Why we should be wary of genetically engineered food

Garden centers and bloggers have been flooded with queries about genetically-engineered or modified organisms (GMOs).

I'll explain in a different way: we all know that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are parents to Prince Charles, and he and Princess Diana were parents to William and Harry. If they were stabilized, inbred plants instead of humans, Prince Charles and Princess Diana would be F1s (first crosses), and William and Harry would be hybrids, all results of conventional breeding. All 100 percent human. But if someone injected Prince Harry, for example, with plant genes, he might grow a fine head of green grass. Then Prince Harry would be a genetically-engineered organism or GMO, the result of injection of a gene from another Family (plant) into a human member of the animal family. It could not happen in nature, without the intrusion of man.

Parents don't not leave their kids alone because they fear something might happen to them. They fear the moral disapproval. Only in the past decade or so has "no child left alone" become the social and legal norm in the U.S.

News reports and crime shows feed exaggerated fears. But Thomas and her co-authors note that legal norms needn't follow inaccurate beliefs about risks. "The fact that many people irrationally fear air travel does not result in air travel being criminalized," they write. "Parents are not arrested for bringing their children with them on airplanes. In contrast, parents are arrested and prosecuted for allowing their children to wait in cars, play in parks, or walk through their neighborhoods without an adult."

Why You Should Never Buy Girl Scout Cookies: Ingredients, Sustainability, GMOs

We're not buying Girl Scout Cookies this year and think you shouldn't either. Consider the GMOs, trans fat, high fructose corn syrup and other reasons we highlight. Our young girls deserve better.

Settled in to these resolutions yet? Then it must be time for Girl Scout Cookies to go on sale. I used to think there was something spectacularly special about them. Our dietitian, Mary Hartley, RD, reminds that they may be a sentimental favorite, but they are not healthy food. In fact, there's nothing remarkable about these cookies. Never once in my years in the Scouts do I recall having a conversation about fruits and vegetables, exercise, or nutrition. I do remember ending each meeting (spent entirely sitting down) devouring packaged chocolate chip cookies and Kool-Aid. I remember my troop leaders pushing us to sell, not teaching us the ingredients in the cookies or why the nutrition mattered. I might be guessing here, but I don't expect that's changed much today. To be more specific, let me tell you exactly why any of us shouldn't be buying these cookies.

WI couple learns their baby died in foster home crib

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee couple is still waiting for answers after their baby boy died in foster care last week -- two days after being removed with three other children from their home.

"A week before he was taken from the home we had taken him to the doctor and he was as healthy as can be," the boy's father, Robert Whitman, said Tuesday night. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office reported Oct. 2 that 2-month-old Robert R. Whitman was found dead earlier that day in the crib where he was sleeping at a foster home.
