Cases of physical abuse of children declined by 55 percent from 1992 through 2009, according to national data from child protective services in the U.S. - but a just-published study in Pediatrics offers a very different story.

John Leventhal, MD, and Julie Gaither, RN, MPH, MPhil, of Yale University found that, from 1997 through 2009, hospitalization for physical abuse-related injuries among children 18 and under rose overall by 4.9 percent. Besides finding that hospitalizations due to child abuse have increased, Leventhal and Gaither learned that children who had been hospitalized were more likely to die. Plus, the greatest increase (10.9 percent) in serious injuries was to babies; 54 precent of the hospitalizations were for children under the age of one year old.

Carla and K Roundtree, parents of a 6-year-old rapper and Tyler Council, producer of the boy's "Booty Pop" music video should be legally charged with child sexual abuse, convicted and made to register as sexual offenders.

The parental rights of his parents should be suspended, pending an investigation by child protective services. Why? They conspired to put a 6-year-old boy in a music video in which he raps about having sex with an adult woman and shoots a long, tubular and very phallic water pistol into the air-mimicking orgasm-while sandwiched between two bikini-clad woman who dance erotically within inches of him.

Why hasn't a veritable Mormon revolt erupted over the continued detainment of FLDS children in Texas? Is persecution of unpopular religious sects now acceptable to LDS society?

The latest news on the Texas FLDS case is that a nursing 2-year old has been hospitalized after being forcefully seperated from her mother for several days. And two other young FLDS boys cannot even be accounted for.

We knew we wanted to raise our children according to our religious and social values, and there was no reason to expect a public school system to do this. We agreed that we would home school our children to start with.

I got a teacher's certificate, which in those days was the easiest way to legally teach your own children. I also acted as a certified teacher for other people who were teaching children at home, including people from various religious groups and others who were teaching their children because of their social values.

Bad communication between the web of child welfare authorities within Manitoba and beyond the province's borders may have contributed to the chronic abuse and death of a Manitoba toddler.

Venecia Audy, 3, died three years ago after suffering multiple injuries including a fractured skull, lacerated liver, bruised ribs and 13 fresh, deep bite marks all over her body. In a Swan River courtroom Wednesday, Venecia's mother, Melissa Audy, pleaded guilty to failing to provide the necessities of life and was sentenced to a year in jail.

Gail Helms told me how she happened on the pictures and the headline on the front page of Sunday's Times: "Flawed County System Lets Children Die Invisibly." The tears came to her eyes. She put the paper aside for a while.

Reading about two teenagers dying in foster care would be painful for anyone, but doubly so for Helms. The stories served up another reminder of the anger and despair she felt 14 years ago, when her grandson Lance was beaten to death after a judge returned the boy to his violent, drug-plagued father.

Assembly Bill 2756 mandates warrantless entry by officials into your home-this is a clear violation of your constitutional rights.

The authors of Assembly Bill 2756 assert that the proposed law is intended to protect children by mandating annual fire inspections of all institutions that file an annual private school affidavit. This would include private schools with fewer than six students-which are currently exempt from fire code inspections. Why are they exempt? Because these are private homes where children are homeschooled, and private homes should not be subject to fire inspections. AB 2756 removes this exemption, in an attempt to give raw power to state officials to enter private homes of homeschoolers to "look around" to make sure the children are safe from abuse and neglect. In reality, this bill is not about fire inspections; it is a misguided reaction to the Turpin child abuse case in Perris, California.

John Kanta listened to people cry, swear and complain in the days following the killing of a mountain lion that was found in a Storybook Island neighborhood.

He also listened to the question: Why can't you just relocate it? Some people angered by the state Game, Fish & Parks Department's decision to kill the 2-year-old, 120-pound male lion Nov. 19 think it could have and should have been relocated, rather than killed.

I've been asked this many times. It's an understandable question, coming from those who are shocked to learn that people even consider bucking the medical system and their infamous childhood vaccine schedule.

To some, I may seem like some sort of modern day renegade; some kind of rogue in a vast wilderness of pharmaceutical influence. I suppose I am different, although I don't feel that way most of the time. What may set me(and millions of others) apart is how I reached this decision. There is not one sole reason that I've stopped vaccinating my kids; there are many reasons. I've been researching this topic in depth for quite a while now(spurred on by an adverse reaction my second child had to her twelve month round of shots), and I've come to the eye opening realization that the rabbit hole is much deeper than most people realize. I have many reasons for not trusting common vaccine science, but there are ten reasons that I feel compelled to specifically address whenever the topic comes up.
