While this article is specific to the Oakland County Court System, the advice contained here applies equally to most of our nations family courts. An old adage comes to mind, "Let the buyer beware" bodes true.

They all hide behind a government agency without fear or accountability for their actions and poor decision making and worse yet, are supportive of one another's decisions, no matter how wrong or unethical it is. The Judges and their employees have completely lost their focus on what is in the best interests of our children and instead base their important decisions not on the welfare of our children, but on their personal feelings.

To my dear daughter, As you grow, many boys will enter your years. They will speak words of love and passion, of wanting you-all of you. Their sex will be lacking.

Believe me, dear girl, I know what crazy hot lovemaking is made of. Until the boy can assure you of the following, it is not true passion. If he can patiently wait for over three years. From pregnant to nursing to pregnant to nursing, with your hormones fierce, and desire often dead. "Please, just let me sleep. I am so tired." will be your common response. Until he can love you still, choose you still, it is not true passion.

I am a big supporter of funding our military, but I just have to weigh in on the potential $7.5 million design contract for runway improvement at Offutt Air Force Base ("Committed to redoing Offutt runway," Feb. 17 World-Herald).

I want my representatives to support the runway improvement, but let's get real about the costs. Using mid-level engineers, each earning $75,000 per year, you could support 100 people for a whole year with that $7.5 million contract.

A law passed in the '80s to prevent drug dealers from getting tax breaks is now taking a huge chomp out of legitimate outfits in Colorado and Washington.

Legal marijuana sales in Colorado and Washington State have grossed billions, but legal dealers will see little of that thanks to a draconian federal law meant to punish street pushers. In one of the first years of legal sales, 2015, Colorado moved nearly $1 billion worth of marijuana and is estimated to take in $135 million in taxes on it. Meanwhile, Washington is expected to pull in around $1 billion in revenue from sales taxes between 2015 and 2019. Despite technically being illegal on the federal level, these businesses must file taxes to the Internal Revenue Service-and they may pay as much as 70 percent in taxes to the feds. That's thanks to Section 280E of the tax code. Congress passed the measure in 1982 so that businesses who are "trafficking in controlled substances" that are prohibited by federal law may not utilize many tax deductions and credits available to other businesses, like deducting rent and employee-related expenses. That means a marijuana business owner can pay an effective tax rate as high as 70 percent, as opposed to the more typical 30 percent rate.

New language in federal rules distinguishes larger, park model RVs from manufactured housing

A muddied definition of recreational vehicles that alarmed the industry two years ago -- classifying park model RVs as permanent rather than temporary housing — is being cleaned up in a revised U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development rule. The proposed rule, published this week, is intended to draw a bright and distinct line between large park model RVs and manufactured housing.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin is proposing a new $120 million bond issue to repair and renovate Oklahoma's nearly 100-year-old state Capitol.

Two years ago, state lawmakers approved a $120 million bond issue to repair the Capitol. Fallin says the bond money helped builders launch the project but that contractors have said they think it will take another $120 million to complete the work. Fallin says interest rates remain low and the new bond wouldn't be issued until 2018, when 40 percent of the state's existing bond principal rolls off the books.

Last year Leiani McMichael was an honor student, artist, and a varsity swimmer at her high school. She was a good kid with a great life. Now the Michigan teenager's family fears for her life.

The 17 year old was seized from her family by Child Protective Services on November 4, 2015, after the University of Michigan Mott's Children's Hospital called CPS and accused her mother of Munchausen by Proxy. The family and supporters believe that Mott's is trying to cover up their poor care of Leiani. Doctors and social workers are blaming the teen for her debilitating illness, but her mother, Rebecca Campos-Santana, insists that there is no way this is all in her head - it's in her digestive system.
