As a therapist I have had to educate several parents through the years that their "creative consequences" were not acceptable to the state agencies that regulate children's safety.

These agencies are called different things in different states, but Child Protective Services or Department of Child or Family Services. Just some of the punishments that are prohibited in Indiana include physical exercise or requiring to take an uncomfortable position. I suppose the military is all about push-ups and running with packs, but I was surprised to hear that Abercrombie & Fitch store managers in Milan were using similar techniques. The Italian labor union wasn't very impressed either.

A P.E.I. aboriginal student has put together a resource kit to help social workers and foster parents better understand the culture of aboriginal children in their care.

Emily Ferguson received funding from the Mi'kmaq Confederacy of P.E.I. for the kit, and created it while on a student job placement with the Department of Child and Family Services. The new kit will provide workers with the tools to educate, promote and preserve a child's Aboriginal identity.

When is covering up incest and rape acceptable? If you're the DC Abortion Fund (DCAF), the answer seems to be when someone needs money for an abortion and you can cover it up with a legal technicality.

The tax-exempt DCAF is one of a network of organizations whose purpose is to help women pay for abortions. Its most recent annual report is laden with disturbing information, including funding abortions for children under 18, working with late term abortionist Leroy Carhart, and providing abortions at over 24 weeks, as well as helping a victim, raped by her father, secretly abort without any reporting of the crime of rape or domestic violence.

For the second time this year, itinerant abortionist Ulrich Klopfer had a misdemeanor dismissed because he had completed a "pretrial diversion program," the South Bend Tribune reported.

Both charges were because Ulrich did not follow Indiana state law which requires that notice of abortions to girls under age 14 be filed promptly with the Indiana Department of Health and Child Protective Services -within three days. Indiana law specifies that sexual activity of a 13-year-old or younger, regardless of the perpetrator's age, is child molestation.

Warning: This news story contains gory details of violent, criminal acts. Two female workers at an inner-city abortion clinic pleaded guilty to murdering newborn babies and an adult patient in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Thursday.

Thirty-four year old Adrienne Moton and 52-year old Sherry West both entered guilty pleas to third-degree murder in the killing of viable newborns as well as feeding a patient enough painkillers to cause her overdose and death. "Is America losing its soul or has it lost it?" asked City College of New York's Anthony Lee Nieves.

Claims of widespread welfare fraud are once again demonizing the poor, unemployed and disabled, despite a severe lack of evidence in the form of welfare fraud statistics, as to how much money or how many people are actually bilking the system.

During his 1976 presidential campaign, Ronald Reagan introduced what would prove to be a persisting urban legend: the Cadillac-driving welfare queen. More recently, the Los Angeles Times ran a report showing $69 million in California welfare money was being drawn out-of-state. However, it isn't illegal for a welfare recipient to use money out of state, as long as they get clearance from a case worker. Indeed, fraud was an issue with the case, as $11 million of that money was actually used at casinos in Las Vegas.
