Where does one find the CAMIS web site, so that a person can check to see if their name has been added to it?

The general public cannot access CAMIS. CAMIS is a database maintained by DSHS. Prospective employers i.e. childcare centers, adoption counselors etc. have access to CAMIS. We had WATCH (Washington State Patrol) background checks done by our adoption agency counselor, they can back perfectly clear as expected. However, when asked by our agency to submit to a "DSHS Background Check", our names were found in CAMIS. DSHS had published our names February 2001 without notice, we discovered DSHS had done this in August 2006 then DSHS notified us via certified mail in September 2006 after they learned we had discovered our names in CAMIS. We were never notified per law "upon completion of investigation". If you believe your name may be published in CAMIS, you may choose to ask DSHS. In the Washington State Ombudsman's (OFCO) 2006 Annual Report which can be accessed online, pages 60-62 recount two Adoptive families cases where they too were accused of Abandonment after their adopted child became a danger in the home. I hope this answers your question and I wish you the best~JoAnn

What about relatives and grandparents who are continually told we cannot see our little ones anymore because DSHS sends them elsewhere instead of to us when we have been bonded with them and raised them for years and years ...then we are made to be by DSHS people of contempt and the little kids get sent off to foster care and adoptions that are bad for them...what of us...after we have sent in referrals to cps requarding the treatment that the kids are getting..and how they are endangered what about the child's civil rights and due process what happens to them their liberty interest rights etc... who takes that in and why are relatives and gandparents being slandered literlly by cps caseworkers and told by the dshs authorities that caseworkers can say and write whatever they want by those caseworkers reguarding us ...leaving the children endangered and without any constitutional rights or actions to support what should be normal to enstate to them/ answer me please..there are so many i know including myself who are going through this for the children ...where is the law in this?

First, I understand your frustration. Just the lies alone are enough to outrage the most civil person. The system was designed with intent to be of help to children and their families. However, it has become an industry where families and their children are lost, Innocent parents are falsely accused while those who harm children remain free.

Currently, our attorney is willing to speak with those in WA state who have been falsely accused of abandonment, especially if they did not receive NOTICE prior to having their names published in CAMIS/CPS Registry.

Currently, I am working with Brian at Senator Don Benton's office as well as Joseph Zarelli to bring about change in our statutes. We believe this is one of the only ways to bring about change. It is devestating to children and their families to be falsely accused.

The Washington State Families & Children's Ombudsman's 2006 Annual Report (avaiable online)clearly show's the error's of
DSHS' DCFS/CPS/DDD. Personally, I thank God they are there to be the "gatekeeper" when so many lives are in jepordy. My only regret, not knowing of the Ombudsman in 1998-2000. Had we known of this organization, our son, Jordon's life story, as well as our's would have had a very different ending.

You can reach the Ombudsman at 206.439.3870 or 1.800.571.7321 their web site is; www.govenor.wa.gov/ofco

I strongly recommend anyone having difficulty with the Child welfare department/DSHS contact Ombudsman and file a complaint.

I hope this information is of some help to you. If there is anything more I can do, please don't hesitate to contact me.
